Billionaires Enraged That SpaceX Gets $900M in FCC Subsidies for Broadband Satellites

U.S. Satellite Opposition Increases Due to Safety Risks

High-speed internet is achievable, safer and more secure with a wired internet connection (see 1, 2) – not WiFi or 5G.  Americans have actually paid to have access to safe high-speed internet already (see 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6).  Nevertheless, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is continuing to subsidize telecom installation of unsafe 5G and WiFi.  This includes providing hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars for satellites to blast 5G and WiFi at us.

Warnings and opposition to these satellites being launched continue to be published and publicized (see 1, 2, 3, 4).  In the meantime, Elon Musk is also being condemned by other Big Tech billionaires because his notorious company, SpaceX, has received more subsidies than theirs.

Elon Musk is under siege by fellow billionaires at Amazon and Dish as he tries to get his fledgling space-based broadband service off the ground, with clashes involving airwave overload and the threat of satellite collisions. Of note: SpaceX won nearly $900 million in subsidies from the FCC recently to support deployment of Starlink.

Meanwhile: Amazon engaged in a months-long lobbying battle urging the FCC to block a SpaceX request Amazon says would threaten its own plans for a satellite broadband constellation.

SpaceX sought FCC permission last year to lower the planned altitude of more than 2,800 satellites.

On Friday, the FCC allowed SpaceX to launch 10 satellites at the lower altitude in an order that largely followed a suggested path forward from Amazon. The FCC deferred action on the rest of the SpaceX request.

Amazon has argued that SpaceX’s request to lower the altitude of its constellation would increase the risk of collision with its yet-to-be launched network of satellites.

What’s next: The broadband satellite war at the FCC will heat up as companies fight over increasingly crowded airwaves and orbital space.

The FCC is supposed to protect Americans by regulating the telecom industry.  It has catered to industry for decades instead (see 1, 2).  Despite repeated requests by doctors and scientists (see 1, 2), the agency refuses to update 24-year old federal radiation exposure guidelines.  Lawsuits have been filed against it for NOT protecting the public from unsafe levels of cell phone and WiFi radiation (see 1, 2) as well as 5G on Earth (see 1, 2, 3, 4) and in space.  Municipalities have also filed 5G lawsuits against the agency.  Some have passed resolutions to ban deployment until studies prove it’s safe (see 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6) and ordinances (see 1, 2) to limit and/or control installation.  Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) and several American tribal groups filed a 5G lawsuit against the agency as well (see 1, 2).  Additionally state representatives in Hawaii and Illinois have introduced 5G bills to protect constituents.

American 5G opposition continues to increase for a variety of reasons (see 1, 2, 3, 4), some of which have been the topic of several “Dilbert” cartoons. Federal agencies as well as credible experts and organizations claim that it threatens aviation safety, jobs, national security, public safety, and weather forecasting accuracy (see 1, 2, 3).  Last month, the Government Accountability Office acknowledged major challenges with deployment as well.

Since 2017, doctors and scientists have asked for 5G moratoriums on Earth and in space due to health and environmental risks (see 1, 2).  Since 2018 there have been reports of people and animals experiencing symptoms and illnesses after it was installed (see 1, 2, 3, 4).  In 2019, telecom executives gave U.S. congressional testimony that they had NO independent scientific evidence that 5G is safe.  Research has determined that it’s not.  Cities AND entire countries have taken action to ban, delay, halt, and limit 5G  installation AS WELL AS issue moratoriums on deployment.

The majority of scientists worldwide oppose 5G deployment.  A petition boycotting 5G phones has been endorsed by doctors, scientists, and industry whistleblowers.

Of course exposure risks ARE NOT exclusive to 5G.  Last year, the World Health Organization warned that high levels of Electromagnetic Fields (aka “Electrosmog”) could cause health issues in a significant percentage of the population.  Regardless, last year Trump reintroduced his proposal to have a nationalized 5G plan and The Department of Defense (DoD) plans to own and operate it with Google.  American legislators and organizations have voiced opposition to this scenario as well.
