As Mapping Police Violence points out, there have only been three days this year that police have not killed someone in America. Think about that for a moment. We are close to the end of April or nearly 120 days into 2021 and there have only been three days that cops have not killed a person.
For 7 years, America’s 50 largest cities have killed Black people at rates higher than white people in all but three cities.

For 7 years, America’s 50 largest cities have killed Black people at rates higher than white people in all but three cities.
The top ten cities that have killed Black people over White people are:
- Chicago
- Minneapolis
- Boston
- Washington, DC
- Atlanta
- San Francisco
- New York City
- Raleigh,
- Milwaukee
- Philadelphia
Statista, said that as of March 31, 2021 police have killed 213 civilians.
“Sadly, the trend of fatal police shootings in the United States seems to only be increasing, with a total 213 civilians having been shot, 30 of whom were Black, in the first three months of 2021.”
As The Washington Post reported, police have killed more than 5,000 people since 2015 or killed on average 1,000 people each year.
The Post also revealed that despite there being a nationwide pandemic, the police still managed to kill 1,021 people in 2020.
According to the Post, police have killed 274 people in 2021 which is 64 more people than what Statista reported. Whichever report is correct, one fact remains clear: not even a pandemic can stop cops from killing minorities.
“An overwhelming majority of people shot and killed by police are male — over 95 percent. More than half the victims are between 20 and 40 years old.”
A recent Newsweek article claims that since George Floyd’s death, police have killed 181 Black people.
“Since George Floyd’s death last May while in Minneapolis police custody, 181 Black people in the U.S. have been killed by the police, according to data from research group Mapping Police Violence.”
“In the 1,127 police killings recorded in 2020, only 16 cases, or about 1.4 percent, resulted in a charge against the offending officer.”
Newsweek also noted, that the highest number of killings occurred in Florida with 19 victims, followed by California with 17, and Texas and Georgia which each recorded 13.
As the Associated Press noted police killed six people in the 24 hours after Derek Chauvin was found guilty of murder.
“At least six people were fatally shot by officers across the United States in the 24 hours after jurors reached a verdict in the murder case against Chauvin on Tuesday.”
According to CNBC News, over a hundred young people died from COVID last year.
“Covid-19 has killed at least 121 people under 21 years old across the U.S., nearly two-thirds of whom were Black and Hispanic people, a new study published Tuesday by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said.”
Which essentially means that since George Floyd’s death (May 2020), America’s police have killed more young Black people than COVID has.
As we close out the first quarter of 2021, America’s police are on track to kill over 1,000 people again. Nothing is going to change until there is a federal law in place that abolishes qualified immunity to prevent these numbers.
