It’s difficult to keep up with all of Facebook’s business decisions that harm users and eventually make the company look unscrupulous if not completely depraved (see 1, 2, 3, 4). One of their latest disasters-in-the making: promoting Virtual Reality (VR) despite all the health risks and warnings associated with this technology.
VR can cause balance issues, behavioral changes, cognitive problems, eye problems (soreness, vision changes), headaches, and more. 2018 research revealed that children receive 2-5 times higher exposures of radiation than adults from Virtual Reality (VR). Unfortunately, because of pandemic restrictions, people are lonelier than ever and, naturally, Facebook wants to help.
From Business Insider:
New Oculus features will help Facebook deepen VR’s social capabilities
Facebook-owned Oculus announced new social features that will help facilitate casual social interactions in VR. With Public Parties, Oculus users will be able to broadcast their voice call groups to a wider audience, making it easier for other users to join a session in progress.
This gives the Oculus platform similar capabilities to Discord, a Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) popular among gamers, which reported a surge in daily voice call users since the pandemic’s onset. Oculus also added Travel Together, a feature that allows groups to move collectively across apps on the platform — at launch, it will be supported by 12 VR games.
The new features further Facebook’s ambitions of making Oculus a mainstream social hub.
American Academy of Pediatrics and other health experts warn that kids are more vulnerable to harm from exposure to wireless radiation and Blue Light. In fact, no “safe” level of wireless radiation has been scientifically determined for children or pregnant women. Blue light exposure has been equated with near-sightedness, macular degeneration, blindness, premature aging, anxiety, and insomnia.
Exposure to all sources of Microwave aka Wireless Radiation can disrupt the blood-brain barrier, cause it to leak, and even kill brain cells. Regardless – some healthcare professionals still endorse VR (see 1, 2) despite warnings from their peers. But whatever, right?
