Research and more research…
First from The Guardian:
Smartphone sleep-tracking apps are making people so anxious and obsessed about their sleep that they are developing insomnia, a leading neurologist has said.
This doesn’t seem all that surprising. Of course, research has also already determined that it’s not only smartphone apps that can cause anxiety and insomnia. Referenced toward the end of the article was how blue light exposure from screens can play a role in this too. In fact, there is lots of research about that – so much so that the American Medical Association has urged communities to not install LED street lights because of insomnia and other health effects caused by blue light exposure.
Exposure to Electromagnetic Radiation (EMR) being emitted by smartphones and other sources can also cause anxiety, insomnia, along with other undesirable health conditions.
Research has also determined that it can cause increased cancer risk. That’s insomnia-inducing too.
