Thanks to Environmental Health Trust for reporting about these segments:
Burt Wolf’s Travels and Traditions, which is broadcasted on PBS, aired two episodes on cell phones and wireless radiation.
To watch these episodes: go to http://www.burtwolf.com/ Under Season 18, go to episodes 8 and 9
Episode 8 “Short Guide to Cell Phone Safety” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5t2pdDYHtnY
Episode 9 “Travel and the Danger of Radiofrequency Radiation” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mf-Efnk7g4k
Many people aren’t aware that there is still no “safe” level of cell phone or wireless radiation exposure that has been determined for children or pregnant women.
However, many people ARE AWARE that screen addiction in kids is not a new issue AND neither is blue light exposure from screens causing severe health issues including insomnia, macular degeneration and blindness. That’s why it’s so bizarre that PBS’ Sesame Street introduced a smartphone as a character in some of its programs:
There’s more: PBS’s Sesame Street also allows tech devices and toys to be marketed with their characters.
Not cool, right?
Silicon Valley parents (aka tech inventors) have been limiting their own kids’ use of screens for many years already. They are now reportedly taking even more desperate measures to shield them.
So it’s great that PBS is airing these segments. But doesn’t it seem like they could be doing more? Of course, it’s not just PBS that could be doing more.
