New “Conscience and Religious Freedom Division” Established At U.S. Health And Human Services

By Catherine J. Frompovich

OCR Announces New Conscience and Religious Freedom Division. It will restore federal enforcement of our nation’s laws that protect the fundamental rights of conscience and religious freedom. https://go.usa.gov/xnvfJ

The above announcement by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services relates to

The creation of the new division will provide HHS with the focus it needs to more vigorously and effectively enforce existing laws protecting the rights of conscience and religious freedom, the first freedom protected in the Bill of Rights. [….]

OCR Director Severino said, “Laws protecting religious freedom and conscience rights are just empty words on paper if they aren’t enforced. No one should be forced to choose between helping sick people and living by one’s deepest moral or religious convictions, and the new division will help guarantee that victims of unlawful discrimination find justice. For too long, governments big and small have treated conscience claims with hostility instead of protection, but change is coming and it begins here and now.”

Acting HHS Secretary Hargan said, “President Trump promised the American people that his administration would vigorously uphold the rights of conscience and religious freedom.  That promise is being kept today. The Founding Fathers knew that a nation that respects conscience rights is more diverse and more free, and OCR’s new division will help make that vision a reality.”

4 Comments on "New “Conscience and Religious Freedom Division” Established At U.S. Health And Human Services"

  1. It is obvious that this new “Conscience and Religious Freedom Division” will permit health care providers NOT to provide certain health care due to THEIR OWN religious or conscious beliefs.
But I must wonder then, if this CRFD would allow for a health care professional to open a private clinic (in the spirit of many who are now operating surgical clinics that bypass insurance companies, for instance) that would provide abortions, sterilizations and end of life care according to the conscience and religious freedom of their PATIENTS?
Is it not the patient who is after all the reason for the health care in the first place? Should any procedure not be first the patient’s choice?

  2. yet another law and yet another law enforcement agency to protect laws (hate speech and “freedom” from religion, WTF???) that should never have been implemented in the first place
putting one law enforcement agency at odds with another, where neither of them should even exist in the first place
like a baker who expresses freedom of thought being fined, jailed, forced to perform, because some gay turd-packers weren’t happy, who the F%^k cares?

  3. “Civil Rights” are rights GRANTED to the subjects by the corporate structures (actually by the corporate officers) of “the government.” What is granted can be taken away. The observation of these rights by the system will be conditional. Any enforcement of civil rights that interferes with the business (and what is that really?) of government will be suspended arbitrarily by “officials” and the corrupt courts. I hope people are paying attention.

  4. No more abortions at the Little Sisters of Mercy. They always were hideously ironic
