Soon our governments will make sure that nothing we do online is ever private again (if any of it even is now).
First, watch just the first minute or so of the short clip below from CNN called “The Danger of Digital Terrorism” featuring Rabbi Abraham Cooper, associate dean of the Simon Wiesenthal Center, a leading Jewish human rights organization.
A few snippets that stood out right away:
“…grappling with the issue in terms of hate speech…”
“…there’s an issue when people can say things anonymously…”
“The real crisis right now… when you have some of the other companies that allow for encrypted conversations between individuals uh, without, uh, the opportunity for law enforcement or intelligence to know how a communication goes…”
Abraham goes on to say it is because we’ve seen that people go from Twitter to talking with ISIS soldiers that no one should have any privacy on the Internet… and that’s just in the first minute or so of the clip. He advocates companies taking away all capability for private communications and anonymous speech.
Do you see how this works?
Because some people do bad things, no one anywhere should be allowed anonymity or privacy on the Internet without constant, perpetual government surveillance and intrusion. (Never mind pesky little facts like those people who are doing bad things were funded, trained, armed and essentially created by our government in the first place. Talk about problem-reaction-solution.)
We already know that police are using real-time, pre-crime algorithms to assess a color-coded threat score for anyone they come in contact with via 9-1-1 calls or pull overs that is based on combining everything about a person’s public records with their Internet activity including their social media posts and online purchases:
Now they are going to remove the ability to speak freely on the Internet altogether under the pretext of digital terrorism.
Next, the real clampdown as they criminalize more and more free speech as “hate speech.”
Sure, it might start out with talking to ISIS on Twitter… but where will it end? People who are critical of the government? Websites like this one I’m typing on right now?
Eventually, we will all be deemed digital terrorists and cyberbullies.
What an Orwellian use of language to control everyone’s language.
The time we are living in is beyond 1984.
The war on terror is really just as it has always been: a war on us.
