During an interview Thursday with Chris Matthews of MSNBC (the outlet that officially changed its tagline to “what progressives have been waiting for”), President Obama said he will propose new reforms that will give Americans “more confidence” in the National Security Administration (NSA).
Considering the majority of Americans paying attention for longer than five seconds to ex-NSA contractor Edward Snowden’s continual ocean of leaks already have zero-to-less-than-zero confidence in the NSA’s respect for our rights at this point, all the president would have to do is say people will have more confidence and if one halfwit regains even a glimmer of hope that we aren’t all living in a dystopic Orwellian big brother nightmare for even a moment, the president will have fulfilled his promise.
Smart plan for a fail-proof confidence booster, right?
Wrong, because unfortunately, the president then went on to say, “The NSA actually does a very good job about not engaging in domestic surveillance.” Well that’s just not really the same as saying that the NSA absolutely does not engage in domestic spying (because they do).
After that, Obama went on to point out, “Outside of our borders, the NSA’s more aggressive. It’s not constrained by laws.”
Oh. Gee. Good to know.
Side note: many of the companies Americans use for email and online communications, including Google, Facebook, Yahoo etc., have servers located all over the world; you know, in places outside the country not constrained by those pesky laws Obama was talking about.
Why doesn’t our president just save himself (and us) the time and effort on those supposed forthcoming reforms and consider the confidence we didn’t have in the NSA shattered in advance.
Then again, our President has lied about basically everything almost ever — from claiming the least transparent administration in American history will have the most transparent administration, to assuring people they could keep their insurance plans under Obamacare, to the existence of nonexistent shovel-ready jobs as a selling point on his $787 billion stimulus package, to blaming the Benghazi attack on a ridiculous YouTube video, to even whether or not he lived with his illegal immigrant uncle in the 1980s. How anybody can believe anything that comes out of his mouth at this point, even if it’s just about the weather outside, without fact checking it first is a bit mind boggling.
Our lying president has lied so much, turning to him for confidence would be like asking Freddy Krueger to read you a bedtime story. It’s to the point where people are now openly talking about what a big fat liar Obama knowingly is on national television like it’s just common, accepted knowledge. You know it’s bad when liberal ESPN columnist LZ Granderson recently went on CNN to actually defend Obama’s giant bag of Obamacare lies, claiming the president only does it for the good of the American people, like the guy is our daddy fibbing about the existence of Santa Claus so he doesn’t have to break our naive little hearts come Christmas morning.
“Time and time again, Americans have said we can deal with the lies that President Obama tells us because we believe in his heart, he has the best interest for the American people,” Granderson said.
Also good to know.
Doesn’t that just give you so much more…confidence?
