Perpetual war: new secret American drone bases to bomb Somalia and Yemen

The al Qaeda bogeyman and the sham that is the so-called war on terror continue to drain America of our nonexistent funds and it looks like this unfortunate fact has no end in sight.

If imperial overstretch wasn’t a big enough threat to the future of the United States what with our illegal wars in Iraq, Libya, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Yemen and elsewhere, we are now signed on to yet another plan that will slaughter innocent people while robbing Americans and getting defense contractors filthy rich.

The Homeland Security Policy Institute recently released a report that amounts to nothing less than propaganda which flies in the face of the hard facts released by our own government. This same report, questionable though it obviously is, indicates that we do not need to continue to expand our global counterterror activities.

Regardless of this fact, The Washington Post is reporting that the United States is now building a secret base to launch drones equipped with infamous Hellfire missiles along with satellite-guided bombs from Ethiopia against the Islamist Shebab.

A second base is reportedly being installed in Seychelles, according to the Washington Post.

The Post also said that a base is located on the Indian Ocean archipelago which went operational earlier this month when a mission proved they could patrol Somalia from that location.

Also under construction is a secret airstrip somewhere in the Arabian Peninsula under the command of the Central Intelligence Agency which is aimed at deploying drones over Yemen as part of their new approach which involves simply slaughtering as many suspected militants as possible.

There is also apparently a base in Djibouti, a tiny African nation, from which attacks are launched on Yemen and Somalia, allegedly to cripple groups affiliated with al Qaeda.

This begs the question, why aren’t they bombing the Libyan rebels who are also affiliated with al Qaeda?  I assume it is because the Libyan al Qaeda affiliates have yet to fulfill their duty, after which they will be bombed and deposed just like the Taliban in Afghanistan and Saddam Hussein in Iraq.

In late June what is believed to be the first American drone strike in Somalia occurred, reportedly wounding several fighters according to a Shebab official.

The Washington Post also reported that this attack wounded two of Shebab’s senior commanders who allegedly have ties to al Qaeda in Yemen.

What the mainstream media plays down in their coverage is the fact that these missions constitute undeclared war, paid for by the American taxpayer without any input from our so-called representatives in Washington.

I should clarify, we aren’t paying for it, since we have no money to speak of, instead we are being used as collateral in order to build up even more massive piles of national debt thereby further enslaving our nation to offshore banking interests.

Of course, U.S. officials utilize Orwellian doublespeak in order to muddy the waters and make it more difficult for the average American to realize what we are doing abroad.

They say that their goal in erecting what The Washington Post refers to as a “constellation of bases in the Horn of Africa and the Arabian Peninsula” is not to ramp-up bombing runs to epic proportions but instead “to create overlapping circles of surveillance in a region where al-Qaeda offshoots could emerge for years to come”.

If we continue to murder innocent civilians by the hundreds supposedly to stop terrorism, we can be sure that we will continue to create a new generation of terrorists who witness the atrocities we are committing there.

A former senior U.S. military official told The Washington Post that these highly questionable expansionist efforts represent “a conscious recognition that those are the hot spots developing right now,” despite the fact that the HSPI report I covered directly contradicts the assertion that the biggest terrorist threat is coming from abroad.

Clearly our government is having trouble with their narrative as they can’t seem to decide if the biggest terrorist threat is domestic or foreign.

Then again, it might just be the case that defense contractors can’t make enough money if the government just pretends to be fighting terrorism at home so they must grow their operations in line with classic capitalistic principles of expanding markets.

Whatever their motivation, it is illegal to engage in acts of war (which include bombing suspected militants across the globe without the say-so of our all-but-totally-useless representatives) and it is serving only to create new terrorists as we have seen in Iraq and Afghanistan.

If you have any faith left in your Senators and Congressional representatives, please do us all a favor and inundate them with e-mails, calls and letters demanding that they stop these programs and any like it. We don’t have the money, it is completely unnecessary and more importantly, it is morally objectionable to continue bombing policies that consider a 10- or 15-to-1 civilian-to-militant death ratio acceptable.
