N.Y. surveillance firm planning ‘fusion center’ in Moonachie

After a woman was raped in an apartment building in Jersey City in May, authorities relied on a small electronic witness to help catch her attacker.

Still images from a video camera installed by the New York-based surveillance company SecureWatch24 — which were published by a local newspaper — prompted a tipster to call police and identify the rapist. Police later arrested a 33-year-old Jersey City man, accusing him of that attack and an earlier assault in March.

“It probably would have taken us longer to crack the case” without the video stills, said Debbie Simon, who heads the special victims unit of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office.

SecureWatch24 has been touting its supporting role in that investigation as the company undertakes construction of a facility in Moonachie and tries to drum up business west of the Hudson River.
