Wake Up Time for Fukushima, Nuclear Power and Global Politics

What’s going on with Japan’s government that it won’t own up to the fact that it has to foot the bill for cleaning up the environment after the Fukushima-Daiichi nuclear power plant destruction over two years ago, March 20, 2011?

Does Prime Minister Abe of Japan think that Tokyo’s winning the 2020 Olympics will pull Japan’s monetary chestnuts out of the fire so that the government will get enough tourism money so that the cleanup bill will be paid for then? The trouble is Japan and the world cannot wait until them; it may be too late.

Cleanup is long overdue, as radiation contamination is getting catastrophic day by day with the release of nuclear fission pollution, e.g., a plume of radioactive cesium-137 into the Pacific Ocean and the dispersion of radionuclides into the atmosphere.

Furthermore, Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) doesn’t have the expertise to do the cleanup, according to some experts, and needs to recognize that immediately, if not sooner. It desperately needs to procure expert nuclear fission technology and personnel who can help to neutralize the situation, since the entire planet is being affected and, the Northern Hemisphere in particular, may become radioactive.

Along the lines of helping the situation, numerous physicians, scientists, and nuclear fission experts sent a four page letter to Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon at the United Nations outlining 15 points of concern regarding the current status of the Fukushima disaster. See their letter here.

Reading the letter to Ban Ki-moon, one immediately realizes how much ordinary citizens don’t know about what’s affecting us, an apparent result of media ‘blackout’ strategies anymore. However, one USA organization, Fairewinds.org, has been at the forefront of disseminating information about Fukushima ever since it blew up. Here is a video interview Arnie Gunderson of Fairewinds did with the Real News Network of Baltimore.

Listen carefully to what nuclear power expert Gunderson says. Think about where the fish on your dinner plate comes from. Consider beefing up your nutritional intake to fortify your immune system. Seek out health professionals who can guide you with regard to protecting your thyroid and health, in general.

One question I have is this: With one hundred nuclear power plants operating in the USA, and having experienced one serious nuclear accident—Three Mile Island—one would think that the USA figuratively would be banging on Japan’s door offering technology and help.

What I can’t quite figure out is this: How come the USA is so capable of sending bombs, scuds, depleted uranium warheads, and other means of destruction into countries in the name of ‘national security’, when it seemingly won’t lift a finger to clean up radioactivity that is impacting life and the planet? Good question? What does that say about priorities? Shouldn’t we be demanding that our government start a coalition of nuclear power countries to offer Japan help and expertise to clean up this global disaster?

If Russia and the USA can agree on Syria, why can’t they do something about helping Japan’s Fukushima disaster, which is worse than any hurricane or earthquake for which the U.S. usually offers and sends help? President Putin, President Obama—who’ll go first?
