The over use of force by the Israeli government in regards to its suppression of the Palestinian people can be summed up in this microcosm moment when Israeli soldier Shalom Eisner slammed a peaceful Danish activist in the face with his M16 rifle.
The senior officer, Eisner, a Lieutenant-Colonel, was condemned by Prime Minister Netanyahu who said “This behavior is not characteristic of IDF (Israel Defence Forces) soldiers and commanders and it has no place in the IDF or in the state of Israel.”
An Israeli military spokesman also said the incident was unacceptable but said it was understandable because the demonstration “included violence by the anarchists and Palestinians.” There were also reports of several other peaceful demonstrators being treated for minor injuries.
