Is This The 4th Recent Nuclear Disaster To Strike the U.S.?

4_nuclear_disasters_USBy Brandon Turbeville

Is there any nuclear site in the United States that is not currently collapsing, leaking or otherwise posing a major health or environmental risk? Certainly there are, but that number is becoming smaller and smaller.

In addition to three other nuclear disasters unfolding across the country, a fourth has now arisen. This new disaster is located in Washington state in a facility known as the Hanford site.

One week after 19 workers were sent for medical evaluation as the nuclear waste tank was being transferred because of a leak, 3 more workers are now being reported as injured at the site. According to RT, the workers inhaled radioactive fumes – the same issue facing the 19 previously hospitalized workers. This brings the injured number of workers up to 22.

The Hanford site has reportedly been leaking massive amounts of radiation for more than two weeks. By no means a recent facility, the Hanford nuclear site is one of the original nuclear facilities in the United States, having been part of the Manhattan Project itself. Weapons-grade plutonium was stored at this facility for use in atomic weapons, one of which was dropped on Hiroshima.

Although the facility was decommissioned at the end of the Cold War, the facility has been used to store nuclear waste. In fact, according to RT, two-thirds of America’s radioactive materials are stored at this location which makes it one of the largest facilities of its kind in the world.

The storage tanks which were built as early as 1940 and as late as 1970 contain 56 million gallons of radioactive chemicals.

According Gerry Pollet, a Washington State Representative, those tanks were never expected to last longer than 20 years.

Pollet says,

Twenty years was a dream in the first place. And, as you know, some of them didn’t last 20 years – and we had a small explosion on the 1950s. That hot waste boiled; created a steam explosion under the tank, and we were lucky that we didn’t have half of eastern Washington having to be permanently evacuated.

The company operating the facility acknowledged “higher-than-normal readings for contamination” for a certain tank, but claimed that the readings “well below the alarm level.” RT correspondent Alexey Yaroshevsky traveled to the Hanford site with a Geiger counter.

Yaroshevsky measured the radiation levels of a rock laying well outside of the containment facility and, while the readings were not considered an emergency even the reporter’s handheld device registered a higher-than-normal level of radiation.

Yaroshevsky wondered aloud whether or not the radiation levels closer to the center to the containment facility would be much higher. The reports of the Hanford site leakage now add a West Coast dimension to the nuclear crisis that has escalated in the last few weeks.

In addition to Hanford, reports West Lake Landfill in St. Louis, Missouri which houses sizable amounts of nuclear waste is facing an approaching fire from an adjacent landfill that threatens to turn West Lake into a cauldron of radioactive air pollution. In addition, a nuclear power plant in Turkey Point, Florida is reportedly leaking polluted water into Biscayne Bay. New York’s Indian Point power plant is also threatening to become a major radioactive incident. Constant leaks, mishaps and other signs of an outright collapse have existed at Indian Point for quite some time but have increased in frequency over the last year.

  1. Someone once said that exposure to nuclear fallout and getting vaxed can lead to cars running over and killing people.

  2. Stuxnet rules the software of all these inhuman killers.
Somewhere between the ocean, the air and the land.
Seems some one is deliberately destroying the entire earth.

  3. this is no accident, and it has nothing to do with carelessness, it is by intent.

  4. Well, we have one in Michigan, one in Florida, one in New York and one in Washington State…yep, guess that would about cover this continent.

  5. Another disaster not mentioned is ther meltdown at Three Mile Island. Contrary to what the government told you, TMI had a complete “China Syndrome” meltdown. A little over 5 years ago there was a one paragraph story by United Press International about elevated radiation in the groundwater in Maryland, about 30 miles South of TMI. I have a close friend who was an engineer on duty during the TMI “excursion”. He told me (and others) of the government clampdown and “non-disclosure” rules put in force within 24-hours. He changed his name and has been on the run for 30 years (and is still underground on the other side of the country).

  6. A 2015 report by the World Business Academy detailed negative health trends in the area surrounding the Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant in San Luis Obispo County.

The official public health data presented in this report suggest a probable link between the routine, federally-permitted emissions of radioactivity from the Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant and elevated health risks among those infants, children and adults living closest to the reactors.

These findings strongly suggest that federally-permitted radiation releases pose a health risk to the public, especially to people living near Diablo Canyon in California.

These data also correspond with earlier studies showing significant declines in local disease and death rates after the shutdown of the Rancho Seco nuclear power plant in Sacramento County in 1989.

The report listed the following major findings about local health patterns:

    1. Since the Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant opened in the mid-1980s, San Luis Obispo County has changed from a relatively low-cancer to a high-cancer county.

    2. Due to increases in the San Luis Obispo County cancer rate during 2001-2010, an additional 738 people were diagnosed with cancer.

    3. Cancer incidence in San Luis Obispo County rose from 0.4 percent below to 6.9 percent above the average for the state of California during the time period of 1988-1990 to 2003-2010. The current cancer rate is the highest of all 20 counties in southern California.

    4. After Diablo Canyon began operating, significant rapid increases occurred for the incidence of thyroid and female breast cancer in San Luis Obispo County, both highly radiosensitive cancers.

    5. After Diablo Canyon began operating, infant mortality in San Luis Obispo County rose significantly.

    6. After Diablo Canyon began operating, child/adolescent cancer mortality in the county rose rapidly.

    7. Melanoma incidence in San Luis Obispo County soared from 3.6 percent above to 130.2 percent above the state incidence rate during the period from 1988-1990 to 2003-2010, and is now the highest of all California counties.

    8. Cancer mortality for people of all ages in San Luis Obispo County rose from 5.1 percent below to 1.4 percent above California from 1988-1990 to 2008-2010, making SLO the 25th highest county in the state (up from 43rd highest).

    9. The ratio of babies born at very low-weight (below 3 pounds, 4 ounces) rose 45.0 percent higher in the nine San Luis Obispo County zip codes closest to Diablo Canyon, versus the other more distant 10 county zip codes.

    10. The ratio of all-cause mortality rose 47.9 percent higher in the nine San Luis Obispo County zip codes closest to Diablo Canyon, versus the other more distant 10 county zip codes.

    11. In the 10 zip code areas in Santa Barbara County closest to Diablo Canyon, there was a greater rise in the rates of infant mortality (61.7 percent), low weight births (40.2 percent) and total mortality (19.1 percent), than in the five zip codes areas in the city of Santa Barbara, located approximately 90 miles from the reactors.

    12. The major findings of this report show increases in various rates of disease and death in San Luis Obispo County, as compared to the state of California, since the 1980s (before plant start up and during its early years of operation). This includes increases in infant mortality, child/adolescent cancer mortality, cancer incidence for all ages (especially thyroid, female breast, and melanoma), and cancer mortality for all ages.

  7. People born, raised, live in polluted areas around nuclear facilities have high incidence of various cancers; die at young ages.

  8. Hello,

There are better ways to boil water than with a nuclear reactor.

Coal, natural gas, and oil seem to be more safe and logical choices.

And this deteriorating one is not even active.

We should shut all of the nuclear reactors down immediately, and go with save and plentiful coal and natural gas.

    • When you shut them down, something has to be done with the radioactive waste, including the fuel rods. The problem just doesn’t go away. In fact, the problem goes away… NEVER.

      • Hello William Burke,

First, build no more of them.

Second, the nuclear reactors will be shut down eventually. How about we shut them down now, instead of waiting for a flood, earthquake, or just a malfunction causes more unfix-able problems.

        • Continuing…

Third, I was the coordinator of the live news feed coming out of three mile island during the problem there. I was on the phone with the major TV stations at the time and the crew at the Three Mile Island. My position was at the Master Control at WQED Pittsburgh PA. We just happened to have a news crew on the scene when the problem started.

The governor at the time was preparing to make a speech telling no one to worry when two of his henchmen came on the set and took him away, telling him that the reactor was ready to blow up sky-high. The speech was not done. The governor was taken to safety far away, and the citizens were told that they were in no danger.

I called my wife, and told her to get her and our two children ready to get in her car and drive west. Take some food and water for her and the children, and I will call back when it blows and she should be ready to take off immediately.

The fuel was burning through the 18 foot thick concrete basin under the reactor, and they had no way to stop it.

Harrisburg is not far at all from TMI…

          • Bill Moore | May 8, 2016 at 8:25 pm |

            Hello William Burke,

I think you did not understand what I wrote.

            Bill Moore

          • William Burke | May 8, 2016 at 11:47 pm |

What makes you think so? I was referring to the governor. The capital is Harrisburg, supposedly….

          • …Fourth, what are you suggesting we do with the radioactive waste? Your points 1-3 didn’t address William Burke’s only point despite the apparent filibustering. The nuclear reactor at the facility in this very story is already shut down. The problem appears to be that the tanks storing the waste have aged and become unreliable for storing decades-old waste. Just shutting down reactors cannot be the whole story.

Also, it’s my understanding that there are reactors that we could build that can utilize something like 99% of what we currently consider nuclear “waste” as fuel to produce energy. If that’s the case, then couldn’t the construction of new reactors, at least of a certain kind, at least potentially lead to less total nuclear waste in existence, and therefore be good thing, even if your only goal is to reduce the total amount of nuclear waste?

          • Even better, there is something called a “slow breeder reactor” which basically uses something found in beach sand as fuel and water as coolant with no toxic waste. The original idea got caught in the shadow of “fast breeder reactors” which are very dangerous, so it never saw the light of day. Virtually an endless supply of safe power.

          • These environmental zealots don’t realize the world is going nuclear. China and India, and in many countries around the world, nuclear projects are underway or being prepared. Their number is going to double, not dwindle. Face the facts.

        • The moment they are shut down, the waste and fuel rods must be dealt with. Hence, “when you shut them down, something has to be done with the radioactive waste…”

    • Coal? Natural Gas? Oil??? THIS must be a joke. Are you following up on global warming and changes to our climate, human health, environment, all because of fossil fuels?? Ever heard anything about solar, wind, hydrogen, thermal or maybe even that source of energy which was used in order to destroy WTC on 9/11??? Please check out all Nikola Tesla works, and you can save this world from the catastrophe, caused by the coal, natural gas and oil, made by Rockefellers et al.
For the best book describing the details of WTC destruction on 9/11, PLEASE read Prof. Judy Wood’s book: “Where Did the Towers Go? Evidence of Directed Free-energy Technology on 9/11”

      • Wait. You believe Global Warning is REAL, yet you believe the towers were destroyed by directed energy weapons?

        That’s WEIRD.

        • Why weird? The arguments of the 9/11 destruction as described by Judy Wood, are very reasonable, to me. The facts of massive die-offs of all species, plants, extreme climate changes caused by geoengineering, all due to never-ending pollution, could be called global warning, in addition to global warming..

chris …..wake up ; Be Worried about all the Nuclear Proliferation ; did you forget Chernobyl ??????????

      • Wake up chris , forget climate change , global warming or cooling ; every so many thousands years the Planet has these changes . You remember in school ” Ice Age ” !!!!!!!
CO2 is not the Problem ; it is needed for all Plants and vegetation . 30 Years ago all Scientist saying all that crap about the Ozone and the Planet going to Burn .
O Brainwashed you indeed . Germany gave up Wind and Solar : Ineffective and Very Expensive . Look around you , Majority of those Windmill are broken .

Thank Obama for closing Coal mines..Hilary will follow suit.. Trump is all for clean Coal.. and the Coal minors are backing Trump

  9. Some Uranium is mined very close to the surface. In fact, much of it is.

  10. This stuff is left over from the bomb project and has little or nothing to do with nuclear power plants.

  11. This Nuclear situation is not new. When you use incompetent people in such areas, sorry, any use of a government employee is inefficient and hazardous. It takes 10 people to do the work of 100 in most every government operation. And very poorly at that.

  12. High level radioactive waste is used as part of the fracking medium at sites all over the US; as this makes for a convenient way to dispose of these highly toxic and radioactive materials. All ground water for miles around each drill site (there are tens thousands of these sites) is contaminated in this manner as well as the other substances that are used in the mix and to compound things even further earthquake activity is enhanced by this process. It was several weeks earlier that the government was forecasting a 9.0 plus earthquake for the Washington state area indicating their expectation that the problem would be handled by mother nature; this is a stunning example of the alien/military/industrial/complex’s plans for our future.
