Brandon Turbeville's Brief Interview With Robert F. Kennedy Jr. - Florence, SC

Despite very little mainstream media coverage of the Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Presidential Campaign, Kennedy is still attracting large in-person crowds as well as large audiences in the podcast world as his run for the Presidential Nominee of the Democratic Party continues. Mr. Kennedy’s goal is a lofty one – unseating an incumbent president in a party whose nomination process is notoriously corrupt. But there is no doubt he believes he is up to the challenge and recent polls within the Democratic Party indicate he might be right. Kennedy has consistently polled in the 20% range despite a mainstream media blackout and a refusal by Joe Biden to debate or even acknowledge him.

On August 20, 2023, I had the opportunity to attend a Meet and Greet Townhall campaign event for Robert F. Kennedy Jr. in Florence, SC where I was able to listen to Kennedy’s near hour-long talk where he touched on almost every aspect of his campaign – his vision for America, the economy, foreign policy, the environment, and the corporate stranglehold over American regulatory agencies. Kennedy also spoke at length about how super wealthy corporations like BlackRock are buying up American homes, driving up housing prices and, as a result, rent as well as depriving American citizens the ability to own their own homes.

With about 75 people in attendance – a decent turnout for a campaign event in Florence, particularly one that has no mainstream media coverage ahead of time – Kennedy was eager to take pictures and talk with every attendee. Kennedy took plenty of time to sign books and discuss specific issues with anyone who had something they wanted to know more about regarding his platform points, his research and activism, or just a word with the candidate himself.

After his speech, questions were taken from the audience where he was asked about the border, housing, the veteran’s appeals process within the VA and his view on the 2020 elections. Kennedy clearly stated that unfettered illegal immigration was not just a problem but a crisis that needs to be addressed immediately. He referenced his own stay at the border where he personally witnessed thousands of illegal immigrants coming across, being driven to the border by the drug cartels who are running ads on Tik Tok and YouTube all over the world for their services. Kennedy aptly pointed out how allowing illegal immigration to continue both facilitates the further exploitation of immigrants once they arrive and the driving down of American wages at the same time.

Another question surrounded the question of Kennedy’s promise to break the hold corporations have on American regulatory agencies and the American way of life to which he went through a line of agencies including the FDA, EPA, and USDA that have become entirely co-opted by corporate interests and are now doing the opposite of their stated purposes. Kennedy stated that he would immediately begin removing the individuals from positions within those agencies who are responsible for the corporate influence over them. He said he knew exactly who these individuals are.

When asked about the unreasonable amount of time it takes for a Veteran’s appeal to go through the VA, which Congressman Dennis Kucinich, Mr. Kennedy’s campaign manager reaffirmed was a “nightmare,” Mr. Kennedy stated that much of the reason for this is because previous administrations would not appoint the judges necessary to adjudicate the appeals and thus a glut occurs and the cases build up. He then pledged to appoint the judges necessary to improve the speed in which they are heard.

I was granted a brief two-question interview with Mr. Kennedy after the event and I chose to ask him about his plan to reinvigorate the American economy and whether or not he would support enacting a series of protective tariffs.

I also asked him about his policy on Syria and whether he would support an end to the brutal Western sanctions on that country that have reduced the nation to below third-world status, having perhaps an even more devastating effect than the war itself. I also asked if he would support removing American troops stationed in Syria.

In my brief time speaking with Mr. Kennedy, my impression is one of a man who is not just running for office but one who believes what he is saying on the campaign trail. I got the solid impression that he is a genuine person doing everything he can to save his country before it is too late. The fact that the Democratic Party and the mainstream media are doing everything they can to keep his campaign a secret and, whenever he is mentioned, do everything they can to malign him, is a testament to this perception and to the work he has done in the past the work he continues to do.

Mr. Kennedy’s task is a monumental one and he clearly has an entire political machine arrayed against him. But that is not a position that is unfamiliar to him.
