Despite Gun Ban, Japan’s Former Leader Was Assassinated With A Homemade Shotgun

By Matt Agorist

Tokyo, Japan — Japan’s gun laws are some of the strictest in the world making it the go-to example for the anti-gun lobby in America. This is why the world was shocked on Friday when Japanese former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was shot and killed — with a gun.

Other than the police and the military, no one in Japan may purchase a handgun or a rifle. So comprehensive are the gun laws in Japan that even possession of a starter’s pistol is allowed only under extremely strict conditions.

Despite these oppressive gun control measures and a disarmed society, however, a deranged criminal was able to obtain a gun and kill the country’s former leader.

Before his body was even cold, the anti-gun corporate press began rolling out articles about Japan’s strict gun control and how this has contributed to the country’s low rate of gun violence. None of the articles mention anything about Japan’s far more peaceful culture and pacifism being the main contributor to lower violence, nor do they mention the fact that Japan is not free from mass killings.

In July of 2016, an assailant killed 19 people in an assisted-living facility. Because guns are banned, the killer used knives, highlighting the fact that disarming law-abiding citizens won’t stop criminals from committing mass harm.

Similarly, the banning of guns in Japan did not stop the killer from making his own gun and killing Shinzo Abe.

The suspect, identified as Tetsuya Yamagami — who reportedly served in Japan’s Maritime Self-Defense Force for three years in the 2000s — admitted shooting Abe with the homemade gun, and said he had a grudge against a “specific organization,” according to police.

Proving that gun laws won’t stop deranged killers from obtaining the means to harm others, several other handmade weapons, similar to the homemade shotgun used in the attack, had been confiscated after a search of the killer’s home.

Even explosives were found at the home, according to police. Fortunately, they were not used.

As many readers of the Free Thought Project understand and what this incident proves, is that gun control does nothing to stop criminals from getting their hands on guns and carrying out horrible acts of violence. What gun control actually does is take the right of self-defense away from law-abiding citizens while only allowing criminals and the government to be armed.

As this case illustrates, relying on the state’s guns for protection is futile — yet team gun-grabber consistently pushes this paradigm.

They fail to realize that because gun control must be enforced — with government guns — the term “anti-gun” is essentially a misnomer. The anti-gun crowd is more about the centralized control of guns, making them “pro-gun” but only when those guns are in the hands of a small group of corrupt authoritarians and their order followers.

This is why you see people like Kamala Harris and Joe Biden calling for gun bans while simultaneously surrounded by dozens of guns. They aren’t “anti-gun” at all. As the dozens of guns around them illustrate, they are very pro-gun but only when they are in the hands of their corrupt friends and their order followers.

What’s more, as the tragic assassination of Shinzo Abe illustrates, this system of only the government having guns does nothing to stop criminals from having them as well — leaving peaceful law-abiding citizens to be sitting ducks.
