American opposition to 5G continues to increase (see 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8). This includes a new bill introduced in Hawaii to stop deployment until studies prove that it’s safe. Lawsuits have also been filed against the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regarding deployment as well as for NOT protecting Americans from unsafe levels of radiation (see 1, 2).
American opposition is not isolated to biological and environmental risks (see 1, 2). Federal agencies have warned that the technology threatens national security, public safety, and weather forecasting accuracy. Engineers have warned that 5G base stations can overheat.
Despite all of this and much more – the FCC is encouraging telecoms to keep installing it during the pandemic on land and in space. Last month AT&T and T-Mobile announced layoffs wouldn’t stop deployment either. It’s possible that they may be hiring low-paid contractors to do the work though. Comforting, right?
From Fierce Wireless:
Thousands of carrier layoffs will not impede 5G buildouts and might increase contractor opportunities
This week it was announced that AT&T plans to cut 3,400 jobs, according to the Communications Workers of America (CWA), and T-Mobile is laying off hundreds of Sprint employees, as reported by TechCrunch.
However, the wireless infrastructure sectors of the two carriers building out 5G will not be affected since Sprint’s cuts are largely from the carrier’s sales division, and AT&T’s plans are to eliminate 3,400 clerical and technician jobs across the country in the next few weeks as well as 1,300 jobs from AT&T Mobility and Cricket Wireless stores.
Installing cell towers seems like something that should be done by properly trained experts since they can and do catch fire and collapse. According to real estate agents, they also reduce property value (see 1, 2).
The majority of scientists worldwide are opposed to 5G until studies show that it’s safe. In fact, cities worldwide and ENTIRE COUNTRIES have taken action to ban, delay, halt, and limit installation as well as issue moratoriums (see 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6).
