Electrician Explains Why Utility "Smart" Meters Catch Fire, Explode and Melt As Well As Make Appliances Malfunction and Break

Tens of millions of utility “Smart” Meters have been installed in the U.S. and worldwide so it’s more likely than not that they have already been installed on your home and throughout your community. They have been associated with many problems including fires and explosions (see 1, 2, 3). PG&E customers in California and their insurance companies actually sued the beleaguered utility company because their “Smart” Meters were catching fire over 2 years ago.

Original analog meters lasted on average 40 years and countless people and organizations want the right to have them instead of “Smart” Meters. Many elected officials have taken action to stop their deployment (see 1, 2) including newly elected Kentucky Governor, Andy Beshear while he was the state’s Attorney General.

Other issues associated with these meters include cyberattacks, measurement errors and inflated bills. They can also make people sick (see 1, 2, 3, 4). Since they collect customer utility usage data 24/7, they violate our right to privacy as well (see 1, 2).
