Portland, one of the last urban American havens of fluoride-free water, is on the road paved with dollar bills to brain development impediment, lowered IQs, thyroid problems, and cancer. In other words, Portland will soon be offering its citizens toxic fluoride in drinking water.
Mayor Sam Adams betrayed his populace—which has repeatedly voted down fluoridation—and joined others in the pockets of the fluoride industry. In defense of his newfound alliance, Mayor Adams claims that he grew up drinking fluoridated water in his hometown of Newport, Oregon—hence his pearly whites.
A Foundation of Lies
Mayor Adams, however, has been caught in a lie: the City of Newport’s Public Works page and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention claim that Newport doesn’t, in fact, fluoridate its water. Either the mayor is sorely misinformed or he’s resorted to lying for lobbyists—not an uncommon practice, sadly.
His healthy teeth may (if they are indeed healthy) may owe their welfare to adequate levels of vitamin A and D as well as good brushing and flossing practices.
Fluoride in Drinking Water Hurts the Brain, Causes Cancer
Research by the Cochrane Oral Health Group, in fact, shows that ingesting fluoride does next to nothing for dental health. Meanwhile, a major Harvard study published in a federal government journal found that even at levels as low as 1 ppm (the American standard), fluoride lowers IQ and negatively affects brain development.
Dr. Dean Burk of the Cycochemistry Section at the National Cancer Institute says that, according to his research, fluoride increases tumor growth rates by 25%. Although this research has been ongoing for decades, the U.S. government only recently admitted the chemical’s neurotoxicity to children — they said nothing of adults – and recommended lowered levels across the country. This top scientist found that about 10,000 cancer deaths have occurred due to water fluoridation since 1977.
Communities are attempting to end water fluoridation, mainstream news is acknowledging its negative effects, and even a number of professional dentists have recognized the dangers of fluoride, and spoken out against its use and distribution. So why is Portland adding toxic fluoride in drinking water?
On the five-member City Council, Amanda Fritz and Dan Saltzman oppose fluoridation while Randy Leonard, Nick Fish, and now Sam Adams are in favor for it. No date has been set for the vote on the issue.
