And so it begins… A healthcare system has literally fired 50 employees – in one fell swoop – over a draconian flu jab policy
They can’t fire us all if we stand up, right? That might be the inner wishful thinking of those who refuse vaccinations while working in the healthcare system.
A Minnesota-based health system has fired about 50 employees who refused to get a flu shot.
Essentia Health announced last month that employees would be required to get vaccinated for influenza unless they received a religious or medical exemption.
The system claimed that it was trying to “keep patients from getting sick at its 15 hospitals and 75 clinics in Minnesota, Idaho, North Dakota and Wisconsin.”

Essentia says 99 percent of the company’s 13,900 eligible employees had gotten the shot, received an exemption or were getting an exemption by the Monday deadline.
The United Steelworkers filed an injunction to try to delay the policy, but a federal judge denied the request. Minnesota Public Radio reports at least two other unions are filing grievances on behalf of workers who lost their jobs.
How do you know when something is truly for the benefit of the people? Why, when you are forced to choose it or lose your entire livelihood, of course!
We’d like to point out that we have heard from workers in other healthcare systems who are being forced to get shots or either lose their jobs or wear masks for over four months of the year. Please remember that it is not just nurses and doctors who are being coerced, but support assistance workers and other department workers in the hospital systems.
Obviously, no one should be forced to take into their bodies any substance or face losing everything. Although the system enforcing these mandates claims it’s for public health, this cannot be the case considering the almost complete lack of efficacy of flu vaccines. The hospital systems could protect their patients better by cutting down on preventable medical errors which are the third leading cause of death in the U.S.! They could come up with reasonable methods to prevent superbugs and antibiotic resistance among their vulnerable patients.
We hope that all the unions fighting any healthcare systems using these seriously violating policies go all the way and win back basic rights for these employees.

Too much group think. Too much false incentive to follow the “leaders” and freedom to do as you are told. Good ideas stand alone and don’t need coercion. I want to know what percentage of Americans think that we are overdue for revolution b/c I expect the numbers to be staggeringly high. If so we need to discover the true number, determine the course and get’er done for god’s sake.
As a hospital-visiting contractor who never touches a patient, I am being threatened by the same insanity: get the flu shot or lose your income by never being given assignments again. I refused, consulted an attorney, documented the insanity (including my contracts which never mentioned anything about vaccinations in 12 years and were never renegotiated) and I am preparing to fight in court if/when it comes to that. The funny thing is… I am supposed to get vaccinated to (choose the argument, they use both) 1) protect myself against airborne diseases, which is MY responsibility to myself, and/or 2) protect patients against whatever germs I might be carrying.
Right now, having fought and won 1) I am at stage 2). Which is a real laugh, considering that people (patients and visitors alike) are allowed to freely roam the hospitals without being harassed about their flu vaccine status. Emergency rooms wheel in victims of accidents, whose health or vaccination no one inquires about PRIOR to rendering them medical care (lest they would be hit with malpractice lawsuits in a jiffy!) Could they be contagious and a real danger? Possibly! Does that mean that Emergency rooms will be closed to anyone not having gotten the flu shot? Hell No! Emergency room treatment (merely stabilizing symptoms) is the most profitable business for hospitals. Everything done in an ER costs patients and insurance companies 5 times what a regular, pre-approved hospital stay costs. Can’t close ERs, right?
Well… until ER patients and visitors of inpatients (whose health status is never questioned) are subjected to the same kind of harassment as occasional contractors, I am bracing for a fight in court, in front of a jury. Common sense will have to prevail or… ERs will have to be shut down. Something to do with what’s-good-for-the-goose-is-good-for-the-gander. I’ve been saving for that fight because I want to take it on.
Good for you for standing your ground! Yes, the contractor, occasional onsite worker, or even nurses are increasingly threatened with this illogical nonsense. Sadly, some European countries are vaccinating people at the time they are admitted into the ER. In some cases, parents have prepared paperwork letting the facility know that their child is not to be vaccinated. The facility ignores it and the parents are shocked to see that their child was injected with toxins anyway during their surgeries after receiving the records. This is happening at a maddening pace in Europe. The only place that is worse is Australia which has become a complete medical police state. I fear that it will happen in the USA unless and until we reach critical mass with awareness about this nightmarish insanity.
PS: If this results in a court battle, please have them produce the precedence of contractors posing a health risk to patients, higher than that of guests/patient visitors. Put the onus on them!
For a fact, flu shot compliance at Essentia was only 40% in 2016. Now in 2017, Suddenly the other 60% believe in the flu shot? Doubt it.
But just like an individual, when asked “would you ever kill another human being? ” “oh no! Never!” But when their government starts or joins a war, and drafts you to kill or be killed, the same percentage of compliance happens. Those 60% who stood their ground when not pressed suddenly aren’t so firm in their beliefs, and readily go to war.
It’s a shame, I’m in the steel workers union. IF the union had notified it’s members in september “this isn’t lawful, we’re fighting this”, perhaps the unity that established the union in 1999 would resurface. If those 60% stood strong and refused the flu shot, for a fact the mandate would have failed.
I requested an exemption, not expecting to receive one. I’m surprised I was granted one.
