Having spent a number of months on the ground in Syria, traveling all across the country and, specifically, Aleppo, journalist Eva Bartlett has finally returned to the Western world with yet another round of firsthand knowledge of the Syrian Crisis. Bartlett has traveled to Syria a number of times, each time carrying back a story widely different from that peddled on the mainstream corporate press of NATO countries.
Bartlett has been regularly posting articles and videos regarding the truth in Syria on her own personal website, In Gaza, and through publications on other websites like The Duran, Global Research, Mint Press, and through her interviews with channels like RT and other alternative media outlets. I encourage every reader to access and read her article, “Aleppo: How US & Saudi-Backed Rebels Target ‘Every Syrian’: War Diary By Western Journalist Eva Bartlett On The Truth About Aleppo” as well as the other excellent reporting on her website.
After having left Syria, Bartlett took part in a press conference organized by the Syrian mission to the United Nations. After giving a brief statement about what she has observed in Syria and how she is aware firsthand of the Western media’s deception in terms of coverage of the crisis, she was questioned by a Norwegian journalist, Christopher Rothenberg, who challenged her claims that the Western media was lying.
“You talk the corporate media, the Western media, the lies, and all of this. Could you explain what might be the agenda from us in the Western media and why we should lie,” Rothenberg asked. “Why the international organizations on the ground should lie? Why we shouldn’t believe all these absolutely documentable facts that we see from the ground? These hospitals being bombed. These civilians that are talking about the atrocities that they have been experiencing. How can you justify calling all of us liars?”
Bartlett’s epic response can be viewed here:
She begins by admitting that there are “certainly honest journalists among the very compromised establishment media.” Bartlett then addresses Rothenberg’s second question first, by asking him to name one international organization on the ground in Eastern Aleppo. Rothenberg, of course, could not answer the question; so, after a long pause of silence, Bartlett proceeded to point out that there are none. She then dismantled the reliability of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (staffed by one man in Coventry, UK on the Internet) and the notorious terrorist support group known as the White Helmets.
Bartlett replied,
These organizations are relying on the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights [SOHR], which is based in Coventry, UK, which is one man. They’re relying on compromised groups like the White Helmets. Let’s talk about the White Helmets: They were founded in 2013 by a British ex-military officer, they have been funded to the tune of $100 million by the US, UK, Europe and other states.
She pointed out that the White Helmets “purport to be rescuing civilians in eastern Aleppo and Idlib…no one in eastern Aleppo has heard of them; and I say ‘no one’ bearing in mind that now 95% of these areas of eastern Aleppo are liberated.” At the same time, “The White Helmets purport to be neutral, and yet they can be found carrying guns and standing on the dead bodies of Syrian soldiers.”
She added, “their video footage actually contains children that have been ‘recycled’ in different reports; so you can find a girl named Aya who turns up in a report in say August, and she turns up in the next month in two different locations.”
Bartlett then addressed Rothenberg’s second question.
“As for…the agenda of some corporate media: it is the agenda of regime change,” she said. “How can the New York Times…[or] Democracy Now…maintain until this day that this is a civil war in Syria? How can they maintain until this day that the protests were unarmed and non-violent until say 2012? That is absolutely not true. How can they maintain that the Syrian government is attacking civilians in Aleppo, when every person that’s coming out of these areas occupied by terrorists is saying the opposite?”
Bartlett also fielded questions from another journalist who asked about the differences between Western and Russian/Syrian media reporting of the situation in Aleppo, including the fact that terrorists have repeatedly mined areas once they have retreated as well as the Russian-Syrian cooperative effort to evacuate civilians from “rebel”-held territory.
Sputnik covered the interaction in this way:
“You ask why we aren’t seeing this,” Bartlett chimed in. “This relates to the other gentleman’s question about why most of the corporate media are telling lies about Syria. It’s because this is the agenda; if they had told the truth about Syria from the beginning, we wouldn’t be here now. We wouldn’t have seen so many people killed.”
“In fact,” she noted, “what the Russian media…is [showing] is exactly what the Syrian media is saying, and it shows what independent people in Syria are saying.” With regard to other flaws in mainstream media coverage, including the sensitive topic of alleged Syrian and Russian air force attacks on hospitals, Bartlett offered another example of media manipulation. “They have manufactured stories, and I can give you a precise account,” she said. “In April this year,” there was a story about “a hospital called the Al-Quds Hospital – which in a concerted effort all media said was attacked, targeted and badly damaged by either the Syrians or the Russians. In fact the Russians had satellite imagery showing that this hospital was in the shame shape that it was in in October 2015. No difference; it was not attacked.”
Continuing, Bartlett recalled that “months later, the Guardian, a prominent British newspaper, actually said that the Al-Quds hospital that it had alleged months prior to be attacked and destroyed, was treating victims of so-called chemical weapons attacks. So even the media that is lying is inconsistent in their lies.” In the meantime, she added, unfortunately, Western governments and the media have ignored real attacks on hospitals throughout Syria by anti-government rebels and terrorists.

“So, your sources on the ground, you don’t have them.”
True heroic journalism.
I loved that comment!!
And her sources are one of the belligerents in the conflict. I wonder if there is any bias in that…
Good point. I thought it was omplied she had a lot of experience there (two years?)
Yes but in areas of assad’s control. You notice a massive difference in the reporting of RT compared to other worldwide outlets revolving the civil war
On of my fav quotes that breaks it down in a few words:
“We’ll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false.”. William Casey CIA Director (from 1st staff meeting 1981)
Very 1984ish hey? ?
Yeah the CIA did many illegal things throughout the Cold War period. Drug dealing, Operation mockingbird to name a few. They haven’t had a major post Cold War scandal since, largely due to the increase of journalism and news sources in the information era. But state owned news sources are very much government influenced like RT. I don’t think enough people listen to NPR to turn it into a brainwashing machine?
NPR, which is 90% funded by the rich, is heard nationwide 24-7 and must have a listening audience over 100 million, together with all of corporate mainstream media which is owned by the corporate rich, surely they are all orchestrated to produce propaganda that never offends or contradicts Western powers and Western governments.
Experience does not make people honest, for our voting majority has no love for truth and experience for them only makes it harder to except the truth.
Might be more than a bit dangerous for yet another female to approach ISIS after what’s happened to the rest of the females they’ve gotten their hands on. Despite being funded, trained, armed, fed and transported about with US dollars, even the US who knows where to air drop supplies, communicates with ISIS leaders from a safe place. The important point is that she has been on the ground in this shifting, dangerous place, and probably knows a bit more than you do who depend solely on the media repeating the official line.
I understand the heroin production from Afghanistan is a record one this year, bigger and more than ever. I also understand that one of the reasons the US funds all these Islamic males to form into Taliban, Al Qaeda, ISIS, Al Nustra, etc., etc. militias and armies is to protect the heroin production and trade. The massive killing of civilians and messing around with Syrian sovereignty is bonus. Oh, the fun of off books accounting and Black Ops. You’d think the money from the US’ cut of the heroin would fully cover the cost and US Taxpayer dollars wouldn’t be necessary to fund ISIS and their kin.
horrors have been endured by innocent men, women, children and animals along with property and a nation’s heritage resulting from the war against syria. this is only a glimpse of what has been done to life on this planet by ruling forces with absolute power who disdain humans. for those who can’t handle this truth, returning to the matrix will offer much needed relief.
The 74% of population who voted for President Assad in his last election, they were all “belligerents”?
Voting was only ope to an increadly small portion of the population that was solidly in Assad’s control, not an accurate number
In this very report, Eva mentions that voting was open to the expat community and that many expats traveled to their resident country’s Syrian embassy to cast their votes.
Over 5 million Syrians voted in the 2012 parliamentary elections, a turnout over 51%. Well over 11 million voted in the 2014 presidential election, a turnout over 73%. (The population of Syria in 2014 was under 18 million, many of whom are minors or otherwise ineligible to vote.) Thus, 11 million is not “an incredibly small portion of the population.”
It’s true the election was difficult or impossible to conduct within rebel areas, as the rebels actively attempted to disrupt the election in all areas, but over 73% braved the rebel threats of violence to cast their ballots. A significant portion of them voted against Assad, so I’d say he did a pretty miserable job of controlling and intimidating the voters. Since you are contradicting what’s in Eva’s report, it’s up to you to
provide documentation that “the population … was solidly in Assad’s
control.”
Your comments uniformly reflect that Western corporate media narratives. Why is that? Did you miss all the lies they told you about incubator babies, WMD and genocide in Libya? The genocide against sub-Saharan Africans in Libya was carried out by “rebels” after Qaddafi was overthrown. Fooled you thrice, and you come back for a fourth?
Saying half the country voted doesn’t matter if the other half supporters the rebels. First of all most analysis don’t think real turnout was at 73%. “The Gulf Cooperation Council, the European Union and the United States dismissed the election as illegitimate.” The fact is that Syrian government is a dictatorship, and they will make sure that the government will stay in power. Assad according to government won by 90% a highly improbable number by any account. I’m not sure why you guys are trying to defend a dictator that has been killing civilians. I’m guessing your not a Russian citizen. Why are you complaining about “western media” while believing a reporter that works for a government propaganda machine. Of course western media has made some mistakes, but trusting a state media devoted to spreading misinformation over it is absurd.
I replied but for some reason it’s being moderated. Why do you believe gthe propaganda of GCC, EU and US AFTER THEY’VE LIED TO YOU FOR DECADES.
First off every single international organization isn’t lying to us. A slight bit of distrust is good but complete distrust is absurd, when the only example you can point to is WMD’s which were rejected by the UN. It’s much more abused that you would trust a progranada news agency that has had anchors walk out live, saying that it was state influenced propaganda.
Excellent expose’….these women are exceptional…Peace
One voice of truth! In a sea of lies.
lies crumble in the face of the truth, silencing the blatant liars and their lies!
You go Girl! The sweet scent of truth.
Excellent material!
Notice the smugness of the journo who challenged Bartlett, knowing he’s got the majority to back him….
Ruddy coward!
As we pick and parse our way through information day after day, have you noted how it’s becoming easier to tell when you are hearing the truth and when you are not?
the axis of evil…..USA, NATO, France, England, Australia, Germany & ISRAEL
Brave lady standing in the midst of compromised reporting.
It is just the flicker of light in the deep darkness that gives one hope and I thank you
The name of the journalist is Kristoffer Ronneberg and not Christopher Rothenberg.
He is with the Aftenposten, Norway, Shame on him.
Assad must have a very efficient ‘underground railroad’, which moves him to safe houses daily, otherwise we in the West would have been viewing Seal Team 6 delivering the OBL special delivery.
This is scary when the main stream media shows what is totally opposite on the ground, i admire Eva Bartlett for standing what is true what a brave woman.
Regarding this statement: “Bartlett then addresses Rothenberg’s second question first, by asking
him to name one international organization on the ground in Eastern
Aleppo. Rothenberg, of course, could not answer the question; so, after a
long pause of silence, Bartlett proceeded to point out that there are
none.”. . .
This is actually not true. ‘The International Rescue Committee’ (IRC) is on the ground in Aleppo. The IRC was founded in 1933 as a world humanitarian organization by Dr. Albert Einstein. If you fact check the alleged comments that “White Helmets” are terrorists, you will find that the above statements in the article have no evidence, and that the White Hats have helped the victims of Aleppo — based on other journalists’ reports at the locations under siege and considered more reliable. It concerns me that this journalist is only supplying hearsay from some of the people in Syria. Her report is highly favored by the Russians.
She is so full of truth and so darling cute, an angel from heaven surely.
“It is easier to fool people than to convince them that they have been fooled.” — Mark Twain.
So awesome! I could watch this over and over and never get tired of it.
So true.
