The Second Gettysburg “Address”

They say history has a way of repeating itself.  Well, Saturday, October 22, 2016, bore witness to another Gettysburg Speech which, in some ways, rivals the original Gettysburg Address President Abraham Lincoln delivered to a divided nation on November 19, 1863 [1].

Here is President Lincoln’s famous speech, which I had to memorize as a schoolgirl:

Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent, a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.

Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing whether that nation, or any nation so conceived and so dedicated, can long endure. We are met on a great battle-field of that war. We have come to dedicate a portion of that field, as a final resting place for those who here gave their lives that that nation might live. It is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this.

But, in a larger sense, we can not dedicate — we can not consecrate — we can not hallow — this ground. The brave men, living and dead, who struggled here, have consecrated it, far above our poor power to add or detract. The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here, but it can never forget what they did here. It is for us the living, rather, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced. It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us — that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion — that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain — that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom — and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth. The October 22, 2016 Gettysburg speech delivered by Donald J Trump, candidate for the U.S. presidency, encompassed much more in depth and scope than Lincoln’s but was equally, if not more, important.  Trump’s speech dealt with the broken U.S. infrastructure, the downsized economy, the hemorrhaging of jobs to foreign countries, flagrant violation of constitutional issues, the federal $20 trillion debt, and the entire spectrum of what’s gone wrong with the USA that the Democrats, under President Obama, have allowed to happen under Mr. Obama’s ‘watch’, not to mention his various Presidential Executive Orders.

In all my years of listening to presidential candidates’ speeches, Trump’s Gettysburg discourse was the most comprehensive I can remember!  He covered every possible issue he could think of, especially when he recited his “100 Day Accountability Plan” to begin the very first day of his presidency.  That impressive ‘litany’ of “brokens to fix” starts around 18 minutes in this 39 minute video.

Trump “talks turkey” about canceling Obama’s Presidential Executive Orders that are unconstitutional; eliminating Common Core; fully repealing ObamaCare; taking care of U.S. war veterans; renegotiating/repealing NAFTA and other unfavorable trade agreements; and among other issues discussed, he promised to “drain the swamp in Washington, DC,” which brought a great round of applause.

The people get it:  They understand how the USA is not what it used to be and want it back!

Trump sounded more presidential than most of the former presidents during my time, I’m forced to admit, and especially since he’s not a politician!  I find that contrary to what I thought about Mr. Trump.  There was no mud-slinging, just pure unadulterated fact about the severity of the state of the nation on the eve of the elections of 2016.

Since I’m neither a Democrat nor a Republican, but a registered Independent, I believe in being an equal opportunity critic.  This political campaign season has not been to my liking.  However, after hearing Trump’s Gettysburg oration, I found myself asking, “Why didn’t he say those things from the very beginning?”  I’ve yet to hear Hillary address the issues as cogently as Mr. Trump has outlined and defined.

Regarding whatever may or may not be rigged, I think I have to agree to a certain extent that the media coverage has been rigged in favor of Hillary to the point of nausea from fawning over what under normal circumstances would be a convicted criminal.  There has been no level playing field in the media and elsewhere during this political campaign season from the very beginning, sad to say.

However, the worm is turning.  I was shocked to find at the supermarket checkout counter one of the tabloids touting “Hillary Hitman Tells All!” with “She ordered me to: DESTROY Bill’s sex victims; BRIBE reporters to bury truth; RUIN Monica Lewinsky; HIDE her SLEAZY AFFAIRS; PAY HUSH MONEY to hookers.” Whoa!?  That’s the person who’s running for president of the USA.  Sounds more like someone who should be fighting to keep control of the Chicago mobs.

Amazingly, a Las Vegas, Nevada, newspaper has endorsed Donald Trump!  The Las Vegas Review-Journal! [2]

One of my networkers emailed an article link where very savvy finance guru Catherine Austin Fitts backs Trump with this narrative:

Michael Moore said in an interview that Donald Trump is a Molotov cocktail you can throw on the system.  Interestingly enough, if you look at the federal system, it has a negative return on investment to taxpayers.  If you believe you can never fix that, then throwing a Molotov cocktail into the middle of that is the most intelligent thing you can do for productivity.  It was when I wrote the theme for productivity for the second quarter wrap-up I realized . . . I may have profound disagreements with Trump’s style, but I can throw the Molotov cocktail (voting for Trump). . . . I was going to vote for Gary Johnson, but in the second debate when Trump said I will appoint a special prosecutor, I stood up and cheered.  For the first time, we were talking about real accountability in America.  Then, when he said if I were the President, you’d be in jail, I said that’s it, I am giving money to Donald Trump because that is the first time I have ever seen someone of national prominence on corporate media hold the leadership accountable for their actions. Saturday, October 22, 2016, Hillary and running mate, Tim Kaine, were in Philadelphia campaigning  for another rally geared toward the college crowd vote during which she accused Trump of being a “threat to our democracy”  if he does not agree to accept the results on election day. Furthermore, Hillary keeps spouting that Trump is “unfit to be President.”  Well, how can someone, who’s run afoul of the law in deleting 33,000 emails from her personal server AFTER she received a congressional subpoena [4], run for any office in government in the USA?

Is Hillary that cock sure she’s going to win?  Does she think it’s really in the bag?  Probably she does because she’s one of the ‘elites’ for whom the laws of the country apparently don’t apply.

However, I’d challenge Hillary to match The Donald’s Gettysburg Speech.  During those noteworthy 39 minutes Trump looked more presidential than Mr. Obama has during any of his almost 8 years in office.

Go figure!
