The project is a joint effort in progress between Stanford, the Max Planck Institute for Informatics, and the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg. According to the project’s abstract, via Stanford University:
We present a novel approach for real-time facial reenactment of a monocular target video sequence (e.g., Youtube video). The source sequence is also a monocular video stream, captured live with a commodity webcam. Our goal is to animate the facial expressions of the target video by a source actor and re-render the manipulated output video in a photo-realistic fashion. To this end, we first address the under-constrained problem of facial identity recovery from monocular video by non-rigid model-based bundling. At run time, we track facial expressions of both source and target video using a dense photometric consistency measure. Reenactment is then achieved by fast and efficient deformation transfer between source and target. The mouth interior that best matches the re-targeted expression is retrieved from the target sequence and warped to produce an accurate fit. Finally, we convincingly re-render the synthesized target face on top of the corresponding video stream such that it seamlessly blends with the real-world illumination.We demonstrate our method in a live setup, where Youtube videos are reenacted in real time.

While it may not be “pixel-perfect” YET, Tech Crunch’s response is the same thing on everyone’s mind after watching the original video (which is well on its way to a million views even though it’s only been up for three days):
Even in the relatively low-res clips we’re shown, there’s an uncanny valley effect of something being not quite right. But hot damn is it impressive (and, well, more than a little spooky) even in this early stage.
Why spooky? Technology like this will serve to make video less inherently believable. The video’s use of politicians as the editing target is pretty self-aware. In that regard, political hoaxes will hit a lot harder when it’s a video instead of a ‘shopped picture being forwarded around.
Yeah, nothing about this is comforting. But also, how long has this technology really been available? We all know that whatever technology the general population is being shown currently exists, the military-industrial complex is likely decades ahead of it.
In the original video’s comments section, scores of people pointed out the dangers of this technology in the Orwellian nightmare we currently find ourselves living in. One person said it should be stopped because of a scary potential for misuse, to which someone else replied, “Potential for misuse? I can’t think of a reason you’d want this technology in the first place besides abusing it.”
If government use of propaganda against US citizens has now been legalized (and it has)…
If video of a world leader giving a speech can be hijacked and edited in real-time, complete with, say, a full soundboard created by government software that can take ten minutes of a person talking and match the speech patterns to make convincing audio of a person saying anything they want him to…
And if drills can look as real as the real thing… Can you trust anything you see on “the news”?
And if seeing and hearing aren’t believing…

We are all brainwashed from birth (thanks, Disney) to believe that movies are “entertainment” and not real, whereas TV news is real, when in fact it’s just the opposite. Movies are subliminal predictive programming that place ideas and concepts in the group mind. The media moguls know that the group mind is a very powerful reality-creating force. The big Hollywood blockbusters reach millions of people, who end up holding certain ideas (mostly fears and similar mind worms and memes) that eventually play out for real in future time. TV news is considered “real,” but instead it is the fiction they want the group mind to create. Get it? It’s opposite day at the Happy Farm!

It helps being an old bugger sometimes – I learned the essential of internet sparing/debating/dealing with freeks at least twenty years ago – the kids don’t even know computers and the net existed back then.
Yes, being old has many advantages, you get to exchange a young body for wisdom, not a bad deal really, especially if you can stay mentally and physically healthy and fit. I was living with one of the top IBM computer engineer in the 80’s. I had one of the first PC’s that existed in the world before they were even sold to the public, got my first ISP connection in 1995. What a long, strange trip it’s been.
I got into mac computers via being a printer. i came across an article in a trade journal about a computer/laser printer system, called the ‘Lisa’ from Apple, that did typesetting and printed out finished artwork for making printing plates. It seemed like sci-fi the way this computer worked, you moved this ‘cursor’ around the screen with a ‘mouse’ (I got mad at the author because he never explained what a mouse was and I had to figure it out myself) and the only time you typed anything was when you were entering text to be printed.
The concept of a graphical user interface combined with ‘What You See Is What You Get’ – i.e. just make it look right on the screen then print it out – was incredible at the time. Especially for a printer. Fonts!? Graphics mixed with text!?
Million dollar, top of the line typesetting systems just gave the operator html like text to see on the screen, he had to imagine the final output.
I didn’t get a Lisa but in ’86 I got a ‘Fat Mac’ – a 128K original mac ‘Fattened’ to 512k and an external floppy drive. I was rich! But I was a bit awed and envious of this guy who had a shoe-box sized 10 megabyte hard drive. Wow TEN MEGABYTES! Lol
OMG, what a hoot! To think this was only 30 years ago blows me away. When I got my first PC it came in a shopping bag full of parts. My engineer friend plugged it all together and said, “Okay, here’s your new computer.” All it had was a A> on the screen. No freaking language! No programs had been written yet! If you wanted to use the dang thing, you had to learn Basic. I got really inspired by this and wrote the first commodity trading program in the world for the firm where I worked as a trader at the time. They thought I was a genius! Only they ended up firing a whole battery of traders and bought my bag of parts computer and my program, which replaced the work of ten people right off. I was devastated, had no idea this would happen and I felt really awful. So I quit that job, started working for a law firm that had a fully integrated Mac server set up. My first day on the job I was like, “Mac? Oh pleeese.” My boss said, “Once you go Mac, you never go back,” and that turned out to be the biggest truth ever spoken, at least regarding computers. That was in 1992 or so. Are we a riot or what?

I never learned Basic, my language was HyperTalk, it was a sort of ‘Fifth Generation’ Object oriented scripting language. Every ‘object’ like a card or button or field could have its own ‘script’ and behavior.
I simply fell in love with it, along with Douglas Adams – I found out only after he died that if I had sent him a letter written in HyperTalk he would have replied in it. I think HyperCard was the inspiration for the ‘HitchHikers Guide’
I never heard of HyperCard, it sounds really interesting, but I did not follow the programming path anymore once i realized the ramifications. My friend transferred into IBM’s robotics program while all this was going on and told me we would be transhuman within a few decades. I had a serious ethics debate with myself and decided I wanted no part of that and shortly after that he left his big shot career at IBM for the same reason. We just decided to buy a sailboat and get outta Dodge, Inc. for awhile.
But I am happy to report that I am also proud member of the Bill Gate Hate Club. Agreed. I worked for Disney when he opened the Orlando park. Forty-five years later, knowing what I know now, I can definitely state the company was globalist programming from Day One.

No, he died a few years before the park was opened, but Walt was instrumental in the vision and planning. His brother took over after he died. Almost the entire sprawling complex that exists today was planned years ago, they had a mock-up of what it would eventually look like as it was built in stages over the years. Disney is more about movies than the parks though; the whole ball of wax is a giant programming tool, especially the insane consumerism/product marketing to children.
Damn! I really thought he was at least trying to do good. As a child my father took me to see Fantasia and it definitely had a very positive effect on me and I contrasted that with his disgust at ‘The Jungle Book’ that, in his opinion, slandered and demeaned the original by Kipling (which I didn’t know then but agree with now) and I interpreted that to indicate the contrast between the original Disney and his successors.
Our souls long to feel child-like wonder once again as we break down the illusions of the matrix in which we were raised, but you can’t really and truly “grow up” until you do. Fantasia was especially evocative because it was about wizardry and occult symbolism. I’m probably older than you because I watched Fantasia on LSD with a bunch of college buds. The original LSD compounds available back then let you see through the illusions in a very clear way, one of the reasons it was criminalized like marijuana.

I, on the other hand, have only responded to what you have posted by simple discernment.
You said you are not an evolutionist but you have now come to its defense twice. So I will shoot down your religious belief with three simple examples. At least for any intelligent person it will.
1. Scientific observation proves that species are dying off and/or degenerating. Not regenerating or evolving. Not one speck of evidence hints at evolution, only further degeneration and loss. And don’t start posting links to “genetic mutations” or “genetic manipulations” in some ones laboratory. Those prove nothing. No matter how they have tried they have not even come close to scientifically create or change life through evolutionary process.
2. Male and Female. There are no logical or intelligent answers for how evolution can account for the need for sexual procreation stemming from an asexual single celled organism.
