TSA Quietly Moves to Make Body Scanners Mandatory

As you head to the airport this Christmas, knowing full well that you’ll soon have to endure the indignities of the TSA, you can at least take solace in the fact that you’ll get to choose your indignity. When it’s time to go through security, you can either go through a body scanner, or endure a grubby pat-down. However, that choice may not be available in the future

The TSA has changed their policy on letting passengers opt out of the scanner. You’re still allowed to opt out, but under certain circumstances the TSA can now force you to go through the scanner. According to the DHS:

TSA is updating the AIT PIA to reflect a change to the operating protocol regarding the ability of individuals to opt opt-out of AIT screening in favor of physical screening…While passengers may generally decline AIT screening in favor of physical screening, TSA may direct mandatory AIT screening for some passengers.

The DHS hasn’t explained what conditions would prompt their agents to force you into the scanner, which is awfully convenient. I suppose if they wanted to, they could just force everybody to get scanned, which is probably what this policy change will eventually lead to. The TSA is, after all, notoriously bad at catching terrorists (as are these machines). Their real job is to acclimate the population to be more obedient, and that means periodically introducing new rights violations in small, unnoticeable increments.

  1. I work for an airline and I fly only when there is no way out of it. You would think that free travel is a great benefit but the TSA makes it less than enjoyable. Nevertheless there is a way for the people to stop this tyranny or at the very least slow it down to eventually eliminate it; stop flying. Some will not be able to do that but if enough people could then the financial repercussions will force the Airlines to demand relief.

    • If only enough people cared and could connect the dots. Seems to be going the other way, though, now they want to put tracking devices in our cars and smart meters in our homes. A good solution wouldn’t be to stop driving and live in tents. TPTB eventually want to strictly limit our travel (energy use), they probably would welcome a steady decline in flights.

      • You make a very good point but it has to stop somehow and the fastest way to get corp america to change something is with a direct hit to their bottom lines.

        • Folks, it’s sad but true that the time has come to forget about ‘enough people’ waking up so that numbers can effect change – it’s not going to happen. Most are embracing their slavery. Should that stop us, the remaining 3%, though? No, of course not. But we have to stop looking at the already walking dead to ‘support’ or validate us (although others who are awake will obviously do so) and act – and take action – solely according to our own conscience, truth and integrity, irrespective of the results. In turn, that may affect things in the ‘mass consciousness’ or whatever, but really, when it comes to it, maybe we will all just go down fighting at least knowing that individually we did our best not to contribute to this fascist police state and corporate takeover. This is a spiritual battle as much as anything else and sometimes there is more going on behind the illusion we see being acted out around us than we perceive. Our only role as such is to be true to ourselves.

    • It’s likely i would only take two more flights in my life under scrutiny of the TSA: a one-way out of this country, and the connecting flight to it.

  2. Typical control creep…inch after bloody inch.

  3. Michael Chertoff and his perv machines are more than enough to keep me from flying.
TSA – another perverted 3 letter beast agency – moooooooo.
