- The Facts: Award-winning Australian Mark Davis explains the smear campaign mainstream media is using against Assange. Journalist Greg Bean compares his work to the time that the printing press was invented, putting ‘information’ in the hands of the people.
- Reflect On: The arrest of Julian Assange and censorship of independent media networks goes to show how information threatens the global elite, and not “national security.” It threatens immoral government and corporate actions/interests.
Mark Davis, a well-known award-winning Australian investigative journalist, best known for his work on Dateline, has said that it’s the journalists from The Guardian and New York Times who should be in jail, not Julian Assange. Obviously, mainstream media has completely ignored this in fear of undermining their smear campaign that’s been running against Julian Assange for years, making him out to be a criminal when in fact he’s the complete opposite.
You can watch Davis’ speech about Assange below.
JFK warned the citizenry about “an announced need for increased security” that would be “seized upon by those anxious to expand its meaning to the very limits of official censorship and concealment.” Today, this is known as “national security,” and it’s a term used to justify unethical and enormous amounts of secrecy that do not protect the public, but protect those in power and their corporate, financial and political interests.
These corporate and political interests were exactly what Julian Assange was threatening. As a result, “national security” was used to justify his capture, and the mainstream media machine was used to slander his image and portray him as a criminal.
Mainstream media has a huge influence over the minds of the masses. Although it’s weakening, it’s been used as a massive brainwashing tool since its inception. This is evident by the slew of documents showing the close relationship mainstream media has with government agencies, like the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). The latest example I wrote about was whistleblower William Arkin. Arkin is a longtime, well-known military and war reporter who is best known for his groundbreaking, three-part Washington Post piece on clandestine black budget operations in 2010. He’s gone public outing NBC/MSNBC as completely fake, government-run agencies.
Dr. Udo Ulfkotte is a top German journalist and editor and has been for more than two decades. He went on the record stating that he was forced to publish the works of intelligence agents under his own name, also mentioning that noncompliance would result in him losing his job. Again, these are simply two among a plethora of examples.
Transparency is what Julian Assange was all about, and the American empire, or more so the global empire, has been desperate to keep its secrets and prosecute anyone or anything that threatens their secrecy. That’s what this is all about. And they proved that with Chelsea Manning.
It’s not just people like Assange who are being demonized and hunted, it’s alternative media as well. The war on ‘fake news’ that’s been happening for the last little while has forced alternative media outlets that are presenting credible information to be deemed as ‘fake.’ Any media outlet who even questions a controversial issue has been made out to be ‘wrong’ or ‘fake.’ Who has been hired to do this work? One example is news browser extension NewsGuard, which promises to help readers pick out fake news. However, NewsGuard is funded and run by individuals tied to the CFR, Atlantic Council, and other prominent elite figures.
Below is a tweet from Australian journalist and BAFTA award-winning documentary filmmaker John Pilger, who made comments last month that shed some light on how Assange is being treated.
The revolutionary work of Julian Assange is comparable to that of Johannes Gutenberg who invented the printing press.
I came across an interesting post by activist Greg Bean. In it, he brings up Johannes Gutenberg, the man who first introduced the printing press to the world.
He writes about how that single act created a free press, which gave birth to the concept of freedom of speech, and how the two are “inextricably linked; printing is a form of speech.”
Gutenberg’s invention started the Printing Revolution, a milestone of the 2nd millennium that initiated the modern period of human history including the Renaissance, the Reformation, the Age of Enlightenment, and the Scientific Revolution, and began the knowledge-based economy that spread learning to the masses. Such mass communication permanently altered the structure of society. Removing control of information from the hands of the powerful and delivering it into the hands of the disempowered.
The broad circulation of information, including revolutionary ideas, in many languages, undermined Latin’s dominant status and the authority previously held by those trained in Latin, it transcended borders, threatened the power of political and religious authorities, increased literacy breaking the monopoly of the literate elite on education and learning, and bolstered the emerging middle class. It increased cultural self-awareness and cultural cohesion and undermined the authority of distant rulers and high priests.
WikiLeaks’ threat to the powerful was recognised and every effort was, and is, being made to criminalise anonymous leaking, which would be akin to criminalizing Gutenberg’s printing press, but there is not much chance this criminalisation will succeed.
I suggest you read the full piece as it makes some very interesting points.
The Takeaway
Today, media is controlled by the hands of a few people, and the current war on fake news and the mass censorship of outlets like Collective Evolution are truly considered to be badges of honour. The arrest of Julian Assange is an attack on information and journalism.
Is there a positive side to this? Of course there is; several years ago, information was not an issue for the global elite. But over the past few years, human consciousness has changed. We are becoming more aware, we are questioning more often, we are opening our eyes, and we are seeking out other platforms for information to find out what is really happening in our world. Never before has the global citizenry been so awake, and the war on journalists like Julian Assange as well as the censorship of multiple independent media outlets are clearly proving that. We’ve been noticed, and we are making an impact. ????
Regardless of censorship, truth will always be exposed, and it will always be accessible for those who are willing to take a look.
